e-Estonia Live: Business reinvention during COVID-19

reinventing business during covid-19

Article content

The e-Estonia Live webinar series is hosted weekly on our e-Estonia Facebook page, where we connect with Estonian state experts and company representatives to discuss current issues and the developments within e-Estonia.

This week we dive into the question that most companies have faced during the past month – how do you reinvent your business during COVID-19? In fact, it is not only businesses that are tackling this challenge. Even government institutions, as service providers to their citizens, have been pushed to rethink how to maintain their functionality under these unprecedented circumstances.

We, at the e-Estonia Briefing Centre, are no different. Appropriately, Florian Marcus, our Digital Transformation Adviser and host of our live webinars, discussed the topic with our Managing Director, Anna Piperal and Janno Siimar, Partner at the strategic service design agency, Velvet.

Among other questions, we looked at: how to go about redesigning services and adapting to changing circumstances? How do we learn to ask new questions that will guide us in the process? And what are the common pitfalls for companies trying to redesign services on their own?

Based on our experience at the Briefing Centre, Anna shares how we have come to see the current set of challenges as an opportunity for positive change. And indeed we learn from Janno, that the key to success lies in framing the problem and goal the right way.

As Janno brings out during the discussion, there is no “going back to normal.” Rather, we should be “moving forward to normal.” The way we frame our ideas will affect the way we plan for the future. Time cannot be turned back, but it is in our hands to determine how we choose to adapt to the conditions we cannot control and shape the reality that we can.
