Digital healthcare

  • Overview of Estonian e-Health ecosystem

with Health and Welfare Information Systems Center

Innovative e-solutions have revolutionised Estonia’s healthcare system. Each person in Estonia that has visited a doctor has an online e-Health record that can be tracked. Identified by the electronic ID-card, the health information is kept completely secure and, at the same time, accessible to authorised individuals. KSI Blockchain technology is being used to ensure data integrity and mitigate internal threats to the data. Also, secure data exchange layer X-Road and the overall Estonian digital public administration has made Estonia as one of the leading e-health innovators in Europe

    e-Ambulance

    with Industry62

eAmbulance allows emergency personnel to access patients’ medical records and makes the emergency reporting more efficient.  Idea is that different eHealth services are connected to one big data pool, where the basic information, medical history and population register data of all Estonian citizens are collected. Different digital solutions and medical personnel can connect to this data and fetch data from there and push data in.

    1. The process starts from call to Emergency Call Center (112)

    2. Ambulance doctor enters emergency case data during emergency treatment using eAmbulance Mobile Workstation (iPad)

    3. Doctor can enquire online time-critical data of the patient and past medical history from Healthcare Information System (HIS) on-site. From HIS the doctor gets prefilled ambulance card with the patient’s information

    4. Doctor sends Emergency visit summary (call reports) to HIS with completed ambulance card

    5. Patient arrives to hospital, hospital can enquire these documents from HIS beforehand
