Raising the e-Generation

How technology is transforming education
The e-School system lets kids keep in touch with their teachers and keep on top of their schoolwork.

Eva and Kevin are typical busy parents. With two jobs to hold down and two children to raise, they'll take any help they can get to keep the family organized.

Luckily, like nearly all schools in Estonia, their children, Kristi and Robert, are equipped with e-School, a sophisticated, web-based system that has revolutionized the way parents, teachers and students interact.

Today Eva picked up Kristi from school on her way home. While waiting in the park nearby, Eva used her laptop to log into e-School to see how her second-grade daughter was doing in school. Eva checked Kristi's recent grades, remarks from her teacher, and even details on tonight's homework assignments. She was proud to notice how her daughter’s grades had improved, since they first started using e-School.

A few minutes later Eva received an SMS telling her that Robert, their fifth-grade son, hadn't shown up for class that afternoon. It was no surprise to Eva – he'd had a doctor's appointment, so Eva used the e-School system to send an absence excuse. No more lost notes or forgotten assignments, like in the old days.

That day Kevin got back from the office and remembered that tonight it was father’s turn to help son with the homework, so they logged in to e-School together and went over Robert's homework schedule. Later Robert and his sister Kristi checked into the system themselves to see how they did on their weekly spelling tests. Kristi got the highest score in her class, so she moved the graded paper to her personalized e-portfolio where she keeps all her best work.

Both kids love the e-school system because it gives them an easy way to stay in touch with their teachers and keep on top of their schoolwork. For Eva and Kevin, e-school is priceless. It lets them be fully active participants in their children's education, no matter how busy their lives are.
